Acupuncture originated as part of traditional Chinese medicine and has been practiced for thousands of years. Dr. Ross is a certified acupuncture therapist and has been successfully treating patients with acupuncture and dry needling for over 30 years.
Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile disposable needles into specific acupuncture points on the body. The points are located along pathways of energy (called Chi) which connects the body’s interior with the body’s exterior. Acupuncture points, when needled, can affect the function of the body, such as increasing circulation, balancing hormone levels, relaxing muscle tension and reducing heart rate. Acupuncture is also widely used in the reduction of pain and inflammation associated with muscle and joint disorders. Acupuncture works by triggering a response through the body’s nervous system releasing the body’s natural painkillers (endorphins) and anti-inflammatory chemicals. Acupuncture needles may also be placed in nontraditional points called trigger points this is called Dry Needling.
Acupuncture points can be effectively stimulated by pressure, electrical current, ultrasound or laser. Dr. Ross can use these methods alone or along with needles as part of your treatment plan.
